I just got word from someone close to Anne Northup that she absolutely is running for Congress. This has already become the most likely scenario, after several prominent Republicans reported to me a definite run and Mark Hebert got word of a planned press conference in Frankfort this coming Tuesday.
It’s official now, though.
If Northup wins the primary with Chris Thieneman and Bob DeVore Jr., she will basically be running as an incumbent against Rep. John Yarmuth (D - KY / San Francisco).
That’s fun.

Anne will win the primary walking away and is clearly our Party’s best chance of defeating KY’s Congressman from San Francisco. Anne is a perfect example of the buyer’s remorse stemming from the 2006 elections. She was a far better representative for the Third than Yarmuth will ever be and could have done far more in the minority than the little he has managed to do in the majority. It is no accident that the bridges project began to falter as soon as he got to DC. When it comes to delivering for our community, Anne is a bulldog. Yarmuth, on the other hand, is just a lap dog for Nancy Pelosi.
Thieneman publicly calling out Republican leaders for urging him not to run for the sake of party unity is inexcusable. I would expect a former jock to understand the concept of being a team player better than that. If Chris expects to rise above the rank of fringe element, he’ll need to do much better than that. As it stands now, I wouldn’t vote for him for Metro Council, Mayor, or anything else for that matter.
Northup 2008!
