Representative Tom Burch, fresh out of Kentucky’s 2008 session of General Assembly, didn’t hold back his frustration with U.S. Rep John Yarmuth (KY-3), a superdelegate who has already stated his support for Barack Obama.
At the Hillary Clinton campaign headquarters opening in Louisville today, Rep. Burch questioned why Yarmuth would support Obama over Clinton, who would be considered much more palatable to many Democrats in Kentucky’s 3rd District.
PolitickerKY reported that Rep. Burch said:
I found out my local Congressman got $2,500 from Obama. I wonder: did he pay that to get an endorsement?
Operation Chaos? I think so.
This is only the beginning of the difficulty that Yarmuth is going to experience in the general election due to his endorsement of Obama. Kentucky Democrats are those people who cling to guns and religion, you know? Plus, many of them are actually quite conservative when it comes to issues such as life, guns, and even taxes for some.
Yarmuth’s challenger, former Rep. Anne Northup, who lost in 2006 to Yarmuth, is perhaps the strongest Republican challenger in the country. Multiple sources from around the country are working to be sure she has what she needs to win. She is the only challenger yet to draw assistance from ROMP, House Republican Leader John Boehner’s Regain Our Majority Program. Additionally, pro-life groups have dedicated support.
If you want a Republican to beat a Democrat incumbent in 2008, you need to give money to Northup for Congress and then come to Louisville and do volunteer work for the Northup campaign this fall.
