While it has been fun watching Senator Mitch McConnell confuse and confound Senator Harry Reid over and over again for these past 15 months or so, I have to say, the only thing that would be more amusing would be to watch him mitch-slap Senator Hillary Clinton repeatedly.

The Wall Street Journal today had a column which brought new attention to the notion that Reid could end the primary fight between Clinton and Senator Barack Obama for the Democrats’ nod to shoot for the White House against Republican candidate Senator John McCain.

However, in order to do so, Reid would have to sacrifice himself. Not likely, but possible:

It requires only the rarest of things: an individual willing to set aside his own power and ambition for the good of his party and his country. It is this: Mr. Reid could step aside as leader of the Senate and hand the post to Mrs. Clinton. Only the proffer of this consolation prize would likely persuade Mrs. Clinton to drop her divisive, and now futile, quest for her party’s nomination.

What a joy it would be to see McConnell, that Senate mastermind, baffle Hillary Clinton daily. How wonderful the stories of her temper tantrums would be. The implosion would be hilarious. The “queen bee syndrome” fights between Clinton and General Nancy Pelosi would be to die for.
