SUSA Poll Answers Lunsford Staffer’s Question

When the Mitch McConnell campaign released their internal poll which ripped to shreds the joke Rasmussen playskool poll (according to unbiased observers) which Bruce Lunsford was trying to use to get a fundraising boost, Lunsford staffer Allison Haley said:

It’s certainly mysterious that this poll shows McConnell’s job approval so much higher than several independent polls in the past few weeks.

Well, Ms. Haley, is the mystery solved? May Survey USA polling shows a huge increase in McConnell’s job approval.

BeloBlog:

A new Survey USA/WHAS 11 News poll shows Sen. Mitch McConnell’s job approval rating jumped a whopping 11 points this month. Fifty seven percent (57%) of the Kentuckians who were surveyed approve of the job McConnell is doing while 37% disapprove.

The same poll found a 10% jump in Sen. Jim Bunning’s job approval rating. Bunning is now at 49% approval, 40% disapproval. That’s Bunning highest job approval rating since October 2005.

But back on McConnell. These numbers have to be extremely good news for the Senate Minority Leader, who saw one pollster (Rasmussen) release numbers earlier this week showing McConnell trailing Bruce Lunsford in this year’s senate race. Survey USA has not done any polling yet on the McConnell-Lunsford race but a Lexington Herald-Leader poll showed McConnell with a 12 point lead over Lunsford.

The breakdown on McConnell’s Survey USA job approval numbers shows his biggest support coming from eastern Kentucky (62%-32%) and among men (65%-33%). McConnell is even polling fairly well among democrats (45%-50%) and African-Americans (57%-40%).

Barack Obama: Are You Experienced?

Barack Obama, are you experienced?

Made possible, of course, by Michelle Malkin and her reader Tennyson who made the snob pic. Oh, and tons of gaffes by Barack Obama.

Archbishop Of Chicago: Fr. Pfleger Will No Longer Publicly Mention Any Candidate By Name

The Archbishop of Chicago released a statement on the actions of Fr. Pfleger. He basically says that Fr. Pfleger was wrong in what he did and that he won’t do it anymore:

Statement of Cardinal Francis George concerning remarks of
Fr. Michael Pfleger about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton during
an address at Trinity United Church of Christ on Sunday May 25, 2008

The Catholic Church does not endorse political candidates. Consequently, while a priest must speak to political issues that are also moral, he may not endorse candidates nor engage in partisan campaigning.

Racial issues are both political and moral and are also highly charged. Words can be differently interpreted, but Fr. Pfleger’s remarks about Senator Clinton are both partisan and amount to a personal attack. I regret that deeply.

To avoid months of turmoil in the church, Fr. Pfleger has promised me that he will not enter into campaigning, will not publicly mention any candidate by name and will abide by the discipline common to all Catholic priests.

I wonder if most religious leaders think that what Fr. Pfleger did was wrong. Consequently, was Jeremiah Wright wrong in all his his highly charged rants on race.

Barack Obama Formal Apology: Government Hell

Kind of reminds you of those things from school where you have to check what race you are, doesn’t it? I guess that’s because of Jeremiah Wright’s belief that the schools are designed to teach white people, who, obviously, learn differently from black people.

Acceptable Vs. Unacceptable Church Activism

Liberals don’t like it when church groups get together and fight for causes they believe in that would change government, unless, of course, it favors causes they like. That is, change they believe in.

Somehow, I doubt that Louisville or Lexington liberals would be very happy if Southeast Christian Church, Southland Christian Church, Sojourn, and other churches got together to lobby for change in Kentucky government, unless it was change that liberals already wanted. If it were change that they believe in then they would plaster all over their public relations work who was on their side.

Moreover, I doubt that many of those same liberals would be very happy if the leaders of one or all of those churches spoke openly about his distaste of 2 of the 3 candidates for president campaigning right now, and his love and admiration for 1 of them.

Your Obama Shirt Will Never Arrive, Just Like Social Security, Gore’s Warmageddon, Etc.

BarackObama.com is selling shirts, but not delivering the shirts.

Check out the comments on the Barack Obama website store.

From Primetime Politics, here’s the best one:

This scares me about voting for Obama. If his campaign cant make a T-shirt available what happens when its body armor for our troops or relief for disaster victims we need available.

Another good one:

I waited over two months for my shirt only to receive a call this morning, saying it would NEVER arrive.

Two months for NOTHING is a disappointment, to say the least.

I give money to this campaign every single pay day, like clockwork, and have for nearly a year, but they can’t figure out a way to get me one lousy shirt.

Haven’t we been saying for a while now that if we didn’t change Social Security that today’s youth would never get it? It looks like Obama becomes president, nobody will get anything.

The good thing is that we can presume some bad things won’t happen, either. For example, he won’t be able to deliver socialized medicine. Al Gore’s fictional coming Warmageddon will never come. And so on.

It’s The Principle, Senator Williams

Senator David Williams is moving forward with office renovations for Senators according to the Herald-Leader. Williams justifies the expenditures and raise in the legislature’s budget with valid points about Kentucky’s shortfall not being as bad as other states and how certain agencies in Frankfort are never satisified with the amount of money they get.

However, the point is fiscal conservatism. To some extent the point is perception, Senator. A lot of people are having a tougher time making ends meet and it just does not seem right to spend a couple million dollars because a few Senators have rather small offices.

Telling The Truth?

If Scott McClellan was telling the truth in his book would one of his first interviews be with Keith Olbermann?

Personally, if I were going to rat out a Republican and was being truthful and had nothing to hide, I think I would schedule a sit down with Sean Hannity or Bill O’Reilly over at Fox News; not sit down with a guy who called our troops and/or the Bush administration “cold blooded killers.”

Seriously, is Olbermann really going to grill him on the the facts? I doubt it.

Wilkins Echoes Olbermann

Morgan Wilkins is a student at Indiana University, a single mother of a 5 year old boy, a writer (here, here, here), and a recent graduate of basic training with the 125th Transportation Company Detachment 1, located in Bardstown, Kentucky. She writes in a brief email interview that she’s glad to be home, but misses training:

Yes, Private First Class Wilkins is right. It feels great to finally be graduated from training. All of us soldiers in training counted down the days until graduation. Everyone missed their families and friends a lot. And yes, it definitely feels good to be back home but it certainly is different. I already miss a lot about training. I made some amazing friends that I may never see again. It is amazing how close of bonds you make with people in training. Also, I have to get used to being able to do what ever I want and not just what I am told I can do by Drill Sergeants. It’s crazy what a little isolation, training, and discipline will do to you. I know it will be tough to find a balance between soldier life and civilian life but I’m excited about figuring it out.

Less than two years ago, she was Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person In The World,” over what was probably a gross exaggeration by Olby (Kos story, Olby video). On September 14, 2006, Olby said that Wilkins was the worst person in the world after she was hired by the College Republican National Committee and then conducted recruitment activities at the University of Michigan such as (according to Olby):

. . . a tag-like game in which contestants are invited to “catch an illegal immigrant,” and another called “fun with guns” in which they’re encouraged to test their marksmanship by firing at cardboard cutouts of Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. You call it recruitment. The rest of us call it inducement to assassination.

I got a brief email interview with Wilkins since she just recently returned home from basic training.

I was curious to see what she thought about Olbermann’s recent comment:

Mr. Bush, at long last, has it not dawned on you that the America you have now created, includes “cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives?” They are those in - or formerly in - your employ, who may yet be charged some day with war crimes.

Many people interpreted the comment to be directed at the U.S. Armed Forces, prompting Olby to “clarify” his statement:

Cold blooded killers’ referred not to them but rather to those former and current members of Mr. Bush’s administration and Pentagon who so irresponsibly released the hounds of war and may indeed someday face war crimes trials.

I asked Wilkins what she thought about Olby’s initial comment, as a former “Worst Person In The World” and current Private, and what she thought about his defense.

Wilkins stuck up for Olby, and actually echoed his description of the Bush administration as “cold-blooded killers”(emphasis mine):

Actually, I believe Olbermann’s defense is pretty strong. I don’t think in his original quote he is referring to soldiers for several reasons. First, as soldiers we don’t kill for our own political objectives. We kill, if at all, to carry out someone else’s political objective. Second, Bush himself doesn’t employ American soldiers. Third, soldiers typically aren’t charged with war crimes, but high level officials are.

I believe Olbermann was referring to the Bush administration, in which case, I do not think it was outrageous to call them “cold blooded killers.” This war in Iraq should end now and should have ended years ago. The United States invaded Iraq under false pretenses without a constitutionally-required declaration of war. Now our military is stretched to almost its breaking point with nothing much to show for it. When Bush and his administration continue to send troops to risk their lives in Iraq for, what seems to me like, an attempt to save face and cover up a mistake, it is not unreasonable to call him or his administration “cold blooded killers.”

Nothing much to show for it? Cold blooded killers?

I disagree. And the idea that anyone can simultaneously argue that they are a serious person and that the president could actually be tried for war crimes is amazing to me.

Hey, Olby. Do you want to take back your “Worst Person In The World” award?

6 Other Fun Books By McClellan’s Publisher

Here are 6 other fun books by the publisher of former Press Secretary Scott McClellan’s stupid new book. The George Soros funded publisher Perseus was in charge of this. Notice that George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton both are criticized, but Barack Obama gets graded on a different scale, as usual:

Environmentalists Say Clean Coal Is A Lie, Fight With Cartoons

Clean Coal is a Lie. Environmentalists Fight Back With Cartoon.

Oh, no! Not a cartoon!

These stupid people say that clean coal is a lie, but that global warming is real and caused by humans. I hate to break this to you eco-freaks, but the science is on the side of clean coal in this one. The body of evidence that indicates that clean coal is a possibility is impenetrable compared to the junk science that you people use to “prove” that global warming is real and caused by humans.

Look at their justification for not pursuing clean coal (emphasis mine):

Wait, you may ask–how does coal get clean? Doesn’t it pump billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year? Why yes, yes it does. And the coal companies are planning to get rid of it all somehow. They’ll let you know. Seriously, carbon sequestration for coal won’t be ready until 2030, if there is such a thing.

Yeah, and all those solar powered cars are just rolling out of the factories, aren’t they? Hydrogen cars, too! All of this clean tech is right here under our noses, and all of us stupid Americans just won’t utilize it.

The one pseudo-solution American liberals were able to ram down our throats (ethanol related subsidies) has caused food prices to go up and increased world starvation.

Way to go, libs. Great solution.

Across The Pond: English Flag Ordered Removed, "Offensive To Immigrants"

The regenerating conservative movement in England has a long way to go. Is this what’s coming to America.

A teen motorist in Wiltshire, England had a flag of St. George displayed in his vehicle. He was stopped by police and told to take the flag down because “it could be offensive to immigrants”.

Unbelievable.

thisiswiltshire.co.uk:

Ben Smith, 18, was driving back home to Ingram Road in Melksham on Thursday evening after filling up with petrol, when the officer stopped him on a routine patrol.

He checked the tax disc and tyres on his Vauxhall Corsa but when he noticed the flag of St George on the parcel shelf he told Mr Smith to take it down.

Mr Smith, who works for G Plan Upholsterers on Hampton Park West, said: “He saw the flag and said it was racist towards immigrants and if I refused to take it down I would get a £30 fine.

“I laughed because I thought he was joking, but then I realised he was serious so I had to take it down straight away. I thought it was silly - it’s my country and I want to show my support for my country.”

Mr Smith had recently installed new speakers in the parcel shelf of his car and wanted to cover them up so they did not get stolen.

. . .

PC Dave Cooper, of Chippenham Road Policing Unit, said he had never come across an officer asking someone to remove an England flag from their car because it could be racist.

He added: “It all depends on the context of a stop. If they are going past a lot of Polish people, for instance, and abusing them, then we possibly would ask them to take the flag down.”

Read all of this unbelievable article.

Dependence On Oil Replaced With Starvation

The article How the World’s Richest Governments Starve the World’s Poorest People seems to have an eerie resemblance to isolationist movements of post WWI with the modern dilemma of trying to incorporate ethanol as our alternative fuel. It seems as though I said something months ago about the causes and effects of ethanol. Check the article out and then read my article dated Sept. 27, 2007: Ethanol Production and the Effect on Our Economy

Should our dependence on oil be substituted by starving the already malnourished brothers and sisters of the world?

Corrupt Chicago Roundup: Rezko Decision By Thursday?

Looks like the jury in the Chicago corruption trial of Antoin “Tony” Rezko, who has strong connections with the presidential hopeful and Illinois Senator Barack Obama, want to reach a decision by this Thursday.

Examiner: Rezko jurors will work late “to help conclude our decision”

CBS Chicago: Rezko Jury Resumes Deliberations After Holiday

NBC 5: Rezko Jurors To Work Late This Week

Eye on Rezko (Sun Times): Jurors want to “conclude their decision” — by Thursday

Interesting comments here:

small town guy:
This is the most bizzare stuff. Jurors want to leave early for family coming to town for a visit. Jurors want to leave early for a job interview. Jurors want to leave early to attend an eighth grade graduation. Jurors must leave early because of a family crisis. Jurors must leave early because of personal issues. All the while this judge cowtows to the jurors and lets them leave whenever they wish, why? yet she refuses to have the court stenographer read back any testimony or let them review the transcripts of testimony they feel necessary to aviod confusion and provide clarification during deliberation. Someone, please tell me, is this typical in the Circus Big Top, we’re calling the Chicago courtroom?

. . .

bigwindy:
STG- it’s a “new age” of justice. Maybe the Judge knows Rezko’s future is so dim that a few days at home would be nice before he has to spend an eternity sharing underwear with other inmates.

Near Hit On Passenger Plane Out Of Houston?

Seems like you always have to view stories like this with some skepticism, but it definitely could be true.

Shortly after takeoff yesterday morning, the pilot of Continental Flight 1544 reported seeing a rapidly moving object with a thick smoke trail closing in on his aircraft and shooting past his cockpit window. According to some of the crew and passengers aboard Flight 1544 traveling from Houston to Cleveland, it appeared like some type of missile was headed toward the aircraft. The plane was at an altitude of 5,000 feet and 11 miles east of Bush Intercontinental Airport when the pilot radioed the control tower to report the sighting. The object was described as “missile-like with a thick contrail,” and traveling at a high rate of speed.
