In a brief telephone interview with the Lexington Herald-Leader Friday, Barack Obama (D - IL) blamed his abysmal performance in West Virginia and his possible upcoming 20+ point loss in Kentucky on voters’ lack of familiarity with him, based partially on geography.
H-Lreporter Ryan Alessi (emphasis mine):
“What it says is that I’m not very well known in that part of the country,” Obama said. “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known — not only because of her time in the White House with her husband — but also coming from a nearby state of Arkansas.”
Not only does Barack Obama ignore the possibility that he is losing West Virginia, Kentucky, and numerous other states to Hillary Clinton because they disagree with him on important issues like foreign policy, for example (where Clinton does not advocate negotiating with Hamas), but he gets his geography wrong again!
Colonel Steve nails it (again, emphasis mine):
But, at looking at just this line alone, I wonder even more about the geography lessons he had as a child (also see his recent problems with Sioux Falls and Sioux City here).Let’s see, Arkansas IS close to Kentucky, as stated, but not quite as close as Obama’s home state of Illinois. Matter of fact, the state he represents in the Senate actually borders Kentucky. Please, will somebody in the Obama campaign get Barack a map. With all 50 states. Draw in the other 7, if needed, so he’ll recognize it.
I’m not convinced it’s Kentucky knowing Senator Clinton that’s the issue. I think it’s Obama not knowing Kentucky that’s the issue.
Obama, let’s look at one in this wonderful selection of maps and stuff.

If you can find your home state of Illinois, you may notice that it actually borders Kentucky. Arkansas, on the other hand, does not. Seriously, with all of your experience in the Illinois Senate and that six months or so of your U.S. Senate term during which you were not campaigning for president, did you never realize that Kentucky bordered your state?
Gaffe-tastic. Just like “Sioux City.”
UPDATE: Red State is on it:
No doubt “states in the middle” is code for “white people filled states.” Could he get any less subtle? I mean heck, he’s already written off working class white voters, he might as well write off the rest of them, save the effete collegiate liberals.

The arrogance of this comment is amazing:
“What it says is that I’m not very well known in that part of the country,” Obama…
He’s saying to know him is to support him. It is not possible, in his mind, that someone knows exactly who and what he is and chooses to disagree with him.

I think it’s Kentucky KNOWING Obama that’s the issue. As we get to know the man, we like him less and less because we realize what a radical leftist he really is.

yeah, addison, you’re exactly right.
he can’t say anything wrong. he’s on an educational mission. if you hear what he says and disagree with it, you’re just an idiot. you might get it eventually.
