Courier-Journal Dishes Misleading Information, Again

Page One Kentucky made an interesting remark about how Senator Mitch McConnell signed his letters to the Courier-Journal, noting that the Senator signed his remarks as “Mitch McConnell, Washington, 20005.”

Jake slyly pointed out that the 20005 zip code includes K Street, the street infamous for its many offices and homes of lobbyists, the evil no good people who fight for various things at Congress.  He then said that this signature leaves open the possibility for people to feel that McConnell is closer to them, the lobbysists, than average Kentuckians.

Problem!  Senator McConnell doesn’t sign his letters that way. He signs them “Mitch McConnell, United States Senator.”  Mitch’s Senate Office isn’t in the zip code the CJ lists, so they didn’t take it off the envelope’s return address. McConnell’s home address is in the Highlands.  This is a deliberate attempt by the CJ to disseminate misleading information.

I will give Page One the benefit of the doubt and assume that it was not a part of this scheme.  However, Jake, your coverage of the Felner stories shows how good you are at digging up info.  I expect that you would do the same in all your reporting and that you of all people would be hesistant to trust the CJ.

Regardless, this begs the question . . . which zip code would Lunsford sign an Op-Ed with?

Chicago?  Arizona?  Louisville?

Urban Dictionary Rips Hillary, Deifies Obama *Language Warning*

It looks like Urban Dictionary suffers from the Diggbat syndrome.

The popular website is a good place to go when confounded by a word you just heard your kid use for the first time.  Words like “cellcert,” “hypermiling,” and countless raunchy words are defined by the UD community and then rated and promoted.

However, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama also have definitions.  As one might expect, the “progressive community” has done everything in its power to rid the world of their once-beloved representative of barbarian hordes of working class white people, Hillary Clinton.  I don’t know what idiots wrote these definitions, but judging from the differences between Clinton’s definition as presented on UD and Obama’s definition as presented on UD, it’s clear what the “progressives” want on the front page.  Check out a few of the definitions from UD:

Former First Lady of the 41st President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, and a possible candidate for the 2008 Democratic nominee for President.

Undoubtedly the ugliest woman ever to grace this Earth and a fair argument for abortion rights in that respect. An emberassment to this country, and next to Michael Moore the quintessential synonym of outspoken

The only people who really like Hillary Clinton won’t even be allowed to vote in the next election, because they are in prison.

This soundly defeats any notion that Hillary Clinton could win an election.

If Hillary Clinton was President, she’d start a war once a month.
. . .
stupid b***h and quiet possibly the ugliest lesbian ever. She’s a liar, cheater, thief and racist. She has used the Black Community to get elected and they just love to be used.
Stupid f****ng f**k s**t retard ass b***h who thinks that I owe everybody money because I took my happy to ass college and gave myself an education and now make over a hundred grand year.
. . .
a liberal feminist b***h, she has already been president. if she follows the footsteps of bill, she will have some crack addict under her desk licking on her c**t. but then how do you tell the differance between her mouth and her p***y?
. . .
A idiotic feminist dyke that hails from New Jersey even though she claims to be a New Yorker. If she plans to run for the presidency in 2008, she will lose horribly, most likely to Jeb Bush.
However, Barack Obama is defined in very rosy terms:
1) An awesome man who is going to be our first black president unless the neo-nazi, homophobic, anti-semetic, “pro-life”, klansmen turn out in the polls.
2) A rising star
. . .
A man that has more family values than all Republicans put together, a man that knows what it’s like being at the bottom, a man that has the potential to be the President of the United States one day, a man that should and will unite the entire Democratic party, a man that will unite the nation.
. . .
Our only hope for a black president.
. . .
future president of the united states.
. . .
Pretty cool guy thats running for president.
There is an element of truth to the two bottom definitions of Barack Obama.
a man who will win the US presedential elections on the strength of being black alone. anyone who opposes him will be branded either unaccepting or racist, and forced to vote for him just to prove otherwise
. . .
The chocolate Jimmy Carter.

Did Dixie Elementary Principal Adrian Sanford Illegally Hire His Cocaine-Trafficking Nephew To Work At The School?

The JCPS spin room can find a way to weasel out of nearly every instance of incompetence and stupidity that occurs in our schools, but if the accounts we’re hearing from assorted JCPS employees are true this is completely unacceptable.

We have received multiple reports at tips@bluegrassredstate.com from JCPS tipsters that Dixie Elementary Principal Adrian Sanford (who allegedly used the “N” word in a conversation with a student) hired his nephew, Robert S. Martin of Harlan County, to work at the school.  One account says this happened in January of 2007.  Martin was apparently a very shady character from the beginning, never should have been hired, and was fired when he stole another Dixie employee’s wallet and checkbook, racked up $1,600 in purchases, and was caught on videotape and tracked down by LMPD.  At this point, Sanford probably should have reported the crime to JCPS security.  Unfortunately, tipsters indicate that security was not notified.

Surely, if Martin was hired without undergoing a background check that would be considered at least one ignored safety protocol.

Another tip says that Sanford’s nephew was wanted in Harlan County for drug-related charges at the time he was hired to work at Dixie Elementary.  He was reportedly hiding in Louisville.  The tipster states that the nephew was left alone with children, missed work often, and reeked of alcohol and/or appeared high when he was there.  Apparently he would often go to sleep in a bed that had been moved to a stage at the school.  Indeed, in the summer of 2007, Robert Martin was arrested at least once in Harlan County.  This report from WKYT dated May 22, 2007 states:

• Robert Martin, age 25, Garden Street, Harlan, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Additionally, this report from the Harlan Daily Enterprise published on June 10, 2007 states:

– Robert Martin, 25, of Harlan, six counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and six counts of theft by deception.

Please, if you know more information on this story send it to tips@bluegrassredstate.com.  Additionally, if you know of other instances of administrative, bureaucratic, educratic stupidity occurring in Jefferson County Public Schools please let us know.

There is a lot going on in the schools that parents and the community at large would be horrified by if they knew.  Unfortunately, much of this information is filtered and repackaged by public relations people at JCPS which is grossly disrespectful to the taxpayers and the children.  They pretend to always have the children’s best interest in mind, but I often get the feeling that many of the educrats place their own best interests and their careers before the children.

Look, we need good teachers and we need them to be compensated well and treated with respect.  However, the bureaucratic nightmare that is JCPS harms the careers of good teachers and the education of countless students.  They need to be put in check and pared down so that Louisville schools can be revitalized.

Why Not To Move To Los Angeles - And Not Because Of The Quake

My in-laws are in the Los Angeles area, and while I do not enjoy the area that much, it is good to see them. Almost as important as family, though, and any West Coaster will agree, is In-and-Out. A uniquely SoCal chain, it has amazing American fare and its not unusual to see a line of 30 cars waiting to place an order at 4 in the afternoon. Or morning.

Alas, places like In-and-Out and other fast food places that create jobs will have 32 less square miles to set up shop and help grow the economy. Instead, the LA City Council has put a moratorium on allowing new fast food places to be built in the newly christened South LA (formerly South Central LA, still just as bad). The council expects that Whole Foods and super organic places will spring up and the people there will get skinny and not shoot each other.

Government regulation, bans and moratoriums are always, of course, the best way to achieve something.

How negative. Why not just provide incentives for healthier places to open or educate the people about making better choices. If the people do not want the fast food, the fast food will move and you will already have a steady employer to continue growth.

Don’t ban growth in one place and just hope against hope that someone will come along.

Idiots.

Grayson: Landham Independent Candidacy Possible

Former porn star and Libertarian candidate for Senate Sonny Landham has been disowned by the Libertarians for making anti-Arab statements repeatedly.

Landham still wants to run for Senate, though, as an Independent candidate.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson’s office has just determined, however, that Landham must produce a new list of 5,000 signatures of people who support his Independent candidacy.  He can not utilize the list produced by Libertarian candidate for President, Bob Barr

The real issue for Landham is that he has to do this by August 12th at 4 pm.  Are there really 5,000 people in this state who are so dedicated to triviality and pointless loser candidates that they are willing to sign a petition to get said loser on the ballot?

Did Dixie Principal Adrian Sanford Use The ‘N’ Word?

It’s important to note that the following details are currently being substantiated but we feel that it is important to share this information as soon as possible.

JCPS obviously does not want to push this information out even if their investigation found it to be true.

Dixie Elementary Principal Adrian Sanford is still working for JCPS while he is under investigation for theft of funds. For about $80,000 a year, Sanford is now being trusted with new teacher induction. So, a person that JCPS has to investigate for theft is responsible for training new teachers in the JCPS system. That doesn’t make much sense. Of course, Sanford is currently blaming the bookeeper for all his troubles. How convenient.

However, BGRS has received anonymous tips from people who claim to work at Dixie Elementary that indicate that the issues with Sanford go deeper than just questions surrounding money.  Sanford is being accused of threatening teachers in wild mood swings and with charges of racism. One account says that Sanford suggested that a teacher needed to learn how to talk to black people.  He is also accused of telling teachers how to vote on JCTA issues and of intimidation and religious discrimination against a teacher.

One report of actions taken by Sanford at the school is particularly disturbing.  According to the tipster, a black male student accidently brushed the behind of a white female student. We all know that these types of events now get serious attention by school officials due to lawsuits and other action taken by parents. However, the black child was taken into the hallway by Sanford along with his teacher and was told by Sanford that the child better watch out because they have “hung n*****s” for worse actions against a white woman. The account states that Sanford then went into the classroom, removed his shirt exposing a white tank top and told the children that he works out for that reason (presumably to protect himself from white lynch mobs?). He then threatened the child in front of his peers.

Sanford has not replied to a request for comment on the allegations.

We ask if you are a teacher, parent, or friend of students at Dixie Elementary and have information either about the above incident or new information, please contact us at tips@bluegrassredstate.com.

Also, we have more information regarding some incidents of personnel decisions at the school. Check back later today for more information.

Thanks Mitch!

I paid $3.71 for a gallon of gas today in Louisville. When I go to Shelbyville tomorrow, I expect it to be even lower. So much for 10 years before we see any improvement from drilling. Let’s see how this went down:

Dems say speculators are the problem, and create a bill to solve it.

Senate #s 2 and 3 (Schumer and Durbin), who received over $2 million over this election cycle from the investment sector, do not support limiting speculation and bill effectively dies.

Bush lifts drilling ban and Mitch McConnell’s bill gets traction and a barrel of oil drops $20.

Huh. Must be a supply and demand issue.

Is MoveOn Worried?

In light of Barack Obama’s falling poll numbers, including the “Berlin Bounce” disappearing in one day, MoveOn.org sent out an email today worried about the GOP ads on MTV. The group that placed a full page ad about General Petraeus calling him a betrayor to his country, complained today saying that

“the first political ad that millions of young people will see is a negative attack on Barack Obama—saying he’s “worse than a flip-flopper” and accusing him of no longer being against the war. It’s outrageous.”

Really?  Calling Obama a flip-flopper is “outrageous”, while calling a General a betrayor is not? I just threw up.

Numbers Indicative For The State

Today State Senator Damon Thayer (R -17) will release numbers from a poll of 300 likely voters.

Despite Republicans being outregistered 53-38% by the Democrats, John McCain defeats Barack Obama 57-29% in this district that includes Georgetown and parts of North Central Kentucky. Senator Mitch McConnell defeats Bruce Lunsford 57-36%.

Most importantly for Thayer, though, is his wide lead over his Democrat challenger, 53-33%. His challenger enjoys only a 23% name ID and 7% favorable rating. Robert Powell will be in for a tough fight (by mentioning Powell on this post his name ID actually just went up 11%, that’s the kind of power I have).

I am willing to bet you will see more polls like this when you break down district by district across the state. While the GOP does not have a sure thing and they will fight for their constituents’ trust and votes, I see a big Republican victory in this state in November.

Canadian Paper Addresses Hunter S. Thompson’s Legacy

I don’t remember this from my past readings on Louisville native Hunter S. Thompson, but National Post author Robert Fulford says Thompson’s life turned around after he got high and missed the 1974 championship fight between George Foreman and (another Louisville native) Muhammad Ali in Zaire.

Apparently he wrote vigorously for about 20 years, then lived in a sort of retirement for about 30, and then killed himself at the age of 67 a few years ago.  After Thompson took his own life, another Kentucky native, famous heart throb actor Johnny Depp spent a fortune on Thompson’s funeral after becoming quite close with him while filming a movie about Thompson’s life, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Thompson’s wish was to be cremated and have his ashes shot out of a cannon.

Fulford also had interesting information about Thompson’s role in getting America’s worst president of all time elected.  Jimmy Carter was a miserable failure and is still a slimy, good for nothing, America-hating loser:

One day in 1974 Rolling Stone magazine carried an astonishing article: Its most famous writer, Hunter S. Thompson, had fallen in love with a politician. Thompson, who routinely poured vitriol on the whole political class, announced that he had discovered, by listening to just one speech, that governor Jimmy Carter of Georgia was a great statesman.

Thompson heard Carter speak at Law Day in Atlanta, a celebration of the legal profession, and listened in awe as the governor savaged lawyers for their part in maintaining an unfair class system, helping powerful citizens preserve their privileged positions. In his two years as governor Carter had realized that criminal law treated the poor unfairly: “It may be that poor people are the only ones who commit crimes, but I do know that they are the only ones who serve prison sentences.”

By the time Carter finished, Thompson was a convert. He acquired a tape of the speech, copied it for friends and often listened to it late at night. For the next two years Thompson and Carter were mutually passionate admirers. Time magazine said that they had formed one of the most bizarre relationships in American politics, the born-again Christian and the nation’s most famous user of illegal drugs. When Carter surprised everyone by winning the 1976 presidential election, Thompson received a share of the credit.

Carter several times sings Thompson’s praises in Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, a recently released biographical documentary. But here’s an odd thing about that film: It doesn’t quote the famous speech, doesn’t quote Thompson’s views of it and doesn’t even mention Carter’s four years as president. And of course there’s no hint of what, if anything, Thompson thought when his hero turned out to be an embarrassing incompetent.

Coburn Omnibus Fails

Senator Harry Reid (D - NV) rolled a bunch of costly earmarks into one bill that was dubbed the Coburn Omnibus.  Then he called a vote on it and, low and behold, it failed.  52-40.

Three Republicans voted in favor of the bill.  They were Norm Coleman of Minnesota, John Warner of Virginia, and Gordon Smith of Oregon.

Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R - KY) had this take:

. . . too many Democrats were trying to shift the Senate’s focus away from what should be its main concern, which is the price of gasoline. “Republicans won’t let them change the subject,” he said.

America Should Imitate Europe On This

It’s difficult to read the following paragraph from Times Online and not cringe with jealousy over the fact that Europe accepts nuclear electricity as a good thing for consumers, for business, and for the environment.

SHAREHOLDERS in British Energy, Britain’s nuclear power group, are to be offered a share of the company’s future profits in a plan that should clear the way for it to be taken over by the French.

Why do powerful Americans lay down and let fringe kook fanatics win the PR war over this technology which, if expanded, would serve the United States’ energy needs very well and not pollute?  All of this nonsense while the little nation of France has 58 nuclear reactors which generate over 80% of its electricity.  Why can we not enjoy the same privilege?

The thing is - nobody has to “lose.”  Coal producers should be utilizing clean-coal technology to produce electricity and liquid fuel for military vehicles.  The use of nuclear electricity should be expanded.  American oil producers should be able to produce more.  People who want to produce hyrdo and wind and solar power can do so.

As Senator Mitch McConnell recently said, it’s as if the house is on fire and Democrats are bringing a squirt gun to fight the fire.

Breaking | Global Terrorism Hits Turkey

Add this to the list of reasons that “you can’t have a war on an idea” and that other list of reasons to believe that “the terrorists are in Afghanistan.”

Times Online says two bombs exploded in Istanbul,Turkey in a coordinated attack that has left 13 people dead and about 100 wounded.

Every group of people, no matter how primitive or advanced they may be, who plans and carries out attacks such as this must be eliminated so that people and economies and nations can prosper peacefully.

Obama Reassures P.M. Brown

Telegraph reports that Barack Obama “reassured” Prime Minister Gordon Brown on his sagging popularity.

The man who hopes to be the next US president said: “You’re always more popular before you’re actually in charge. Once you’re responsible then you’re going to make some people unhappy.”

Imagine being in charge of a global war on terror.  You might make some people “unhappy” then, too.

I wonder if Obama ruffled any feathers organizing communities in Chicago.

Barack The Politician

On Barack Obama’s relations with Muslims, journalist Firas Ahmad of Islamica Magazine writes “With a wink and a nod, Obama’s Muslim supporters continue to work for a candidate who cannot afford to wink back at them . . . The votes he would gain from Muslims are far less than the votes he would lose from his association with Muslims.”

Political calculation over conviction and honor.
