School Officials Stealing From Dixie Elementary Children?

It appears that there may have been some shady deals going down at Dixie Elementary over the past couple years. Either shady deals involving theft of school funds or incompetence which resulted in the loss of said funds.

Recently, we received tips about a local school principal being put on leave and an investigation being launched by JCPS into why some of the school’s money had gone missing. After a little investigation we discovered that the school at issue is Dixie Elementary, and that it is not just the actions of Principal Adrian Sanford that are being looked into but also those of the bookkeeper.

You may recall that last year the bookkeeper at Lincoln Elementary of five years, Denise Lamont, was indicted on 107 counts of theft of $31,000 in school funds.

A phone call to Dixie Elem. revealed that there is, in fact, a substitute bookkeeper working there currently and that a woman named Lori Holland is currently serving as Principal even though Sanford is still listed on the school website as Principal.

A search of the government salary database reveals that Lori Holland is a Direcor of the JCPS English as a Second Language (ESS)/L.I.N.K. office.

Adrian Sanford is still listed as the principal of Dixie Elementary with a salary of $77,107.

The unconfirmed rumor among some in the JCPS community is that school administrators plan to keep the presence and outcome of the investigation as quiet as possible due to racial sensitivity and JCPS hiring practices. They claim that Sanford was never truly qualified for the head position at Dixie, but got the job anyway because of racial quotas
and his African-American race.

Numerous Dixie teachers and others who came in contact with Principal Sanford over the past couple years claim to have never been impressed with his performance there.

The 2007 Lincoln Elementary case involved the actions of the bookkeeper raising the suspicions of the Principal, who notified superiors. If it turns out in this case that there was some sort of collusion between the principal and the bookkeeper to steal money from children, while we should be thankful that the JCPS oversight and auditing system eventually caught the theft, it still sheds new light on the need for transparency and citizen oversight wherever taxpayer dollars are being spent.

If any readers have children who attend Dixie, we are interested in finding out if the school notified the parents of the launch of the investigation. Any information related to the case may be sent to tips@bluegrassredstate.com.
