Blue Grass Red State

Not too surprising the Governor has called a special session to iron out some of the state’s budget woes. But what surprised me was that once again we see gambling as a part of the solution.  Kentucky’s governor is going to add casino style slots (at designated horse tracks) as just another desperate solution to solve our financial problems.

I saw a great show the other night where a gambler was begging for money to get out of debt. The brother tells him that while he has the money he won’t give it to him because he won’t pay off his debt. Instead he would go to the casino and place a bet to try to double his winnings and if he won he would play again and again until all the money was gone.  This is EXACTLY how so many of today’s politicians try to balance the budget. If they get some money they will just find another area to spend it and then come begging for more again.

The solution to the state’s financial problems are not pleasant, but they are easy. We need to tighten our budgets, and in some areas make cuts. These are not easy, but it is the only solution to getting us out of this mess.
