Biden: Country Better Off With McCain

Pretty unbelievable.  Barack Obama probably should have went with that Republican look-alike nobody with John Edwards‘ last name.  Or maybe Kathleen Sebelius I guess so all the Hillary Clinton lovers would not vote for John McCain

No Louisvillian Sticks To Talking Points Like This Guy

Check out Brian Brohm, former University of Louisville and Trinity High School QB, up in Green Bay talking to the media after a morning practice last week.

Weeks of speculation on 16 season QB Brett Favre’s status concerning retirement/activation has forced higher than average media coverage of each day in the Packers’ training camp.

Brohm was in front of the cameras for more than 3 minutes taking questions, and he did not once stray from a positive, sincere message.  He’s there to work and to improve.  The team is focused on improvement.  Named starter Aaron Rodgers has been nothing but helpful to Brohm and the other rookie QB, Matt Flynn.

An article posted on the Packers’ web site includes a flattering opinion of Brohm from Head Coach Mike McCarthy:

During last Saturday’s season-opening press conference, McCarthy commented that he has never worked with a rookie quarterback that has picked up the mental aspect of the game as quickly as Brohm has.

When the reporters told him that in the interview (posted on the site, scroll down the video section a ways), Brohm’s response was still perfect:

“That’s a huge compliment, thinking about all of the quarterbacks that he has been around,” Brohm said. “At the same time, I can’t let that get to my head. I’ve got to keep going out there and proving every day that I can pick things up quickly and that I can take it out there and execute it on the field.”

Some Louisville politicians should probably take a clinic on media management from Brohm, if he’d ever teach one.

Favre has been reinstated, but uncertainty remains on whether or not he will play for the Packers or some other team during the upcoming season.

You may want to check Brian Brohm Online for updates on him, and h/t to BBO for the image.

Technical Difficulties Solved - Somewhat

Let it be known that uploading live video through a crappy internet connection in the middle of Western Kentucky is no easy feat. We had it going for awhile early in the day, but alas the feed gave out on us. So please enjoy the videos we have posted for each speaker.

We have also fixed the GOP Rally video so try it again! And Jefferson has great photos to look through. We hope that this will give you a good idea of the environment and that it hypes you up to travel down yourself.

For all of those interested in the BGRS tshirts that were debuted, we will have them available for ordering shortly.

Changes

Obviously, BGRS is undergoing some relatively major changes.

What do they say in stores when they change things?  “Please pardon our construction.”

Ditto.

Gas War: Northup 4 - Yarmuth 0.

Here’s sort of a round up on coverage of the punches Rep. John Yarmuth (D - Bitter Kentucky) took today from Anne Northup.

Northup penned a lengthy piece that ripped Yarmuth’s uncompassionate energy policy to shreds. That’s posted below. Then there are these MSM pieces:

Northup unveils energy policy (WAVE3)

Northup and Yarmuth get into war of words over pain at the pump (WHAS11)

Northup calls high gas prices “national emergency” (WLKY + video)

Northup on energy (C-J environmentalist whacko blog)

America is going to win the Iraq War and Republicans are going to win the Gas War here at home.

Northup Says "American Oil Now!"

Anne Northup has a presser scheduled for 10:00 this morning at a Thornton’s on Dixie Highway, and this editorial was printed in the Courier-Journal today.

I’m really enthused by Northup beginning to show some real tenacity on this issue and a willingness to fight it out. Anybody with any sense whatsoever, once they know the facts of this issue, will recognize that the Democrats’ stonewalled obstructionism on oil issues over the last three decades, and the last 15 years in particular, has caused the crisis that we’re currently in.

This should become very clear in Louisville over the next 5 months.

Here’s Northup’s editorial in its entirety:

Oil reserves in Alaska, elsewhere could ease crisis

By Anne M. Northup
Special to The Courier-Journal

Two years ago, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and the Democrat Congress promised to devise a national energy policy and lower the cost of gas, which was about half the price it is now. When asked what he and the other Democrats have done to fulfill that pledge, Congressman John Yarmuth of Louisville points to the legislation they passed to suspend shipments to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. He initially claimed this legislation “could reduce prices by about … 25 cents per gallon of gasoline,” but later downgraded the expected effect of this action to only 5 cents per gallon. It’s a little surprising that anyone would boast about saving a nickel when gas prices have risen $1.63 since Yarmuth took office and the Democrats took control of Congress.

But there’s more. Just last week, our representative joined 10 Democrats who filed a “use it or lose it” bill which would force oil companies to use the federal leases they currently have or forfeit them. The truth is, oil companies have had very little success with these leased lands, with 52 percent of the leases turning up no oil. Many more were leased for the purpose of recovering natural gas only. Other areas are prohibitive in terms of the cost to drill and questionable in the amount of recoverable oil. It is hard to fathom the thinking of a person who would propose forcing companies to drill all over the continent in places with marginal or no reserves, but refuses to allow drilling where there are plentiful reserves.

Other actions contemplated by the Democrats in Congress include suing OPEC to increase production. They also plan on launching their seventh investigation into “price gougers” and their fourth investigation into “speculators.” In addition, they want $20 billion in windfall profit taxes on oil producers, a failed strategy tried by a previous Democratic Congress in 1980 and signed into law by then-President Jimmy Carter. It stifled domestic oil production, resulting in an even greater dependence on foreign oil. One needn’t be an energy expert to understand that none of these actions will produce one more drop of oil for our country.

By halting shipments to the SPR and trying to force OPEC or our own energy companies to increase production, the Democrats are at least indicating that they understand that increasing the supply of oil is vital to lowering our prices. The question is, why won’t they take realistic, concrete steps to do that instead of trying to demonize the oil companies and posturing against OPEC?

We do not have to look overseas for our oil. Alaska’s ANWR alone contains 10.4 billion barrels of oil. Likewise, the Outer Continental Shelf is estimated to contain 19 billion barrels of oil. There are other estimates that put our oil reserves in the hundreds of billions of barrels. When given the opportunity to tap these abundant resources, the House Democrats overwhelmingly opposed it while House Republicans overwhelmingly supported the increased production. Even when the Republicans were in the majority and passed it in the House, the Senate could not muster the 60 votes necessary to pass the bill and send it to the President because of Democratic opposition.

Recently, such large reserves of shale oil were discovered that some now refer the United States as the “Saudi Arabia of shale oil.” Yet last year this Congress banned all new shale oil extraction. That’s right: No matter where or how safely it could be extracted, this new reserve is now off limits nationwide.

We know where the major reserves of clean, light and easy-to-refine crude oil are located. Even though a majority of people in this country believe we can harvest our oil in an environmentally safe manner, this Congress seems to be too frightened of an environmental lobby that has become increasingly irrational.

The high price of oil is jeopardizing the entire economy and our balance of trade. It has triggered fears of inflation and a subsequent recession around the country. From Wall Street to the unemployment office to family dinner tables, the talk moves from higher gas prices to higher food prices to higher unemployment to greater inflation, and a real fear of the economy collapsing is rising. As for our trade balance, when we depend on foreign oil and the price goes up, we ship more of our American dollars overseas. Today we send $500 billion to countries, most of whom do not even like us. This is simply unacceptable.

Conservation is important, but it’s not enough. Some individuals can bike or carpool to work, or consolidate trips, or take a shorter vacation, but many people and many industries must depend on energy for their livelihood, and high fuel prices are threatening their survival. Hard-working truck drivers, farmers and airline workers rely on oil to fuel their businesses, as do millions of other Americans. Energy underpins our whole economy, and the long-term need for energy is vital.

The United States must start drilling now. While it will take years for the new oil to enter the marketplace, that is no excuse for not starting now. Economists agree that passing legislation to open up drilling in ANWR, the gulf and the Outer Continental Shelf will instantly lower oil prices. It will send a clear message to speculators and other countries that we are serious and proactive about solving our energy problems. In seven to 10 years, oil will start flowing from these and other explorations and will become an asset to our economy, improve our trade balance, increase our international competitiveness, and ensure that our national security is unthreatened by the need for foreign oil.

This will give us the time we need to begin a national path toward energy independence using not only our own oil, but clean coal, nuclear, fusion, hydrogen, solar and wind energy. There will be new economic confidence, a pride in our country’s “can-do” determination and new technologies to export around the world.

Affordable, dependable energy is not a new issue. Economists have been warning us for years that energy independence and the need for more oil are critically important. For 10 years, I supported every effort to expand drilling in ANWR, in the gulf and off our coasts despite the political and personal attacks — especially in the last election — because the people in this district deserve a strong, honest leader who says what needs to be said. But today, this issue is more than a campaign issue. It is a national emergency. To purposely stand in the way of an obvious solution to a national crisis is inexcusable. Let’s get going.

Anne M. Northup is a former Republican congresswoman from Louisville. She is seeking election to her old seat this fall.

More Shocking Media Bias

When is Mark Hebert to have his Dan Rather moment? I just know that once he retires from so-called journalism, he’s going to take off that thin veil of impartiality he wears.

What kind of idiot journalist would write a blog post about Fox News being criticized for the baby mama graphic . . .

and not even mention that Michelle Obama has used the opposite form of the same “unflattering term?” . . .

I guess a journalist with an agenda.

Gun Crime In England

It looks like the English people have stopped stabbing each other constantly for just long enough to shoot each other. Of course, rather than just attempted murder, the attacker will, of course, also be charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A 16 year old girl was shot in the head {warning, graphic cell phone picture} on the set of an English TV series “Shameless,” which was the girl’s home, after a party.

The girl is currently in critical condition.

Pelosi Coming To Louisville For Yarmuth

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D - CA), the actual San Francisco representative, is coming to Louisville in an attempt to raise the clout of a local San Francisco representative, our plutocratic Rep. John Yarmuth (D - Bitter Kentucky).

She is scheduling events at the University of Louisville for an “official” visit so the underfunded Yarmuth campaign doesn’t have to foot the bill for her carbon-emitting trip here. Taxpayers will get the tab.

Speaker Pelosi is expected to meet with students at UofL as well as presidents of all the local universities in Louisville (UofL, Bellarmine, Spaulding, etc.)

I hope the students ask her why she favors policies that lead to expensive gasoline. I hope they ask her why she refuses to support policies that would cause the price of gas to drop immediately. I hope they also remind her and Yarmuth that if President Bush had followed their advice regarding Iraq, that we might have lost that war by now. Instead, we’re on the brink of being able to honestly declare victory. While they’re at it, I hope they ask Yarmuth why he has voted against drilling for oil not only in Alaska, but also on the outer continental shelf.

If you don’t want to drill in Alaska because of the caribou, fine, but you have to allow the United States to drill SOMEWHERE. The Chinese are drilling for oil in our waters, and I think Bush needs to fire a missile at their rig the second it reaches into our pocket. No nation should be allowed to take our oil from us, especially when it’s only stupid liberals like Nancy Pelosi and John Yarmuth and their ridiculous no energy plan that is stopping American workers from drilling for American oil so people can buy American gasoline for their cars.

Once Again Mr. Yarmuth, I Present To You Facts

Now, I know it’s real hard to accept truths. It’s even harder to accept truth from people who are just out to “gouge the little guy” and the evil people across the aisle. However, thanks to Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), the facts are easy to find for the little guys, me and you.

Young points out in his response to the much ballyhooed HR 6251 (The Responsible Federal Oil and Gas Lease Act of 2008) such facts as how the new bill just restates things that are already law, how the process works, and real business things like time frames for research.

Aside: Stevens is from Alaska so he might know more about oil than John Yarmuth. When we start talking about dependence on foreign barbecue, I’ll call Yarmuth. It’s funny that he doesn’t even mention Yarmuth as a co-sponsor, unlike all the press releases from the Democrats today. Sounds like maybe John had to raise his hand and say “Ooh, me too, me too, throw me on there.” I know it doesn’t actually work that way, however, what does happen is House leadership says “This is good PR. Yarmuth needs help since he doesn’t do anything, so let’s put him on here to help him out.”

You would think that someone who has as much money as John Yarmuth would understand real business situations, but then again you would think a member of Congress would understand their constituents, too. Way to go, Yarmuth!

Oh, well. Remember to vote for Anne Northup if you want someone with anything that resembles sense in Washington representing you.

Really, Barack Obama Is Very Normal

Seriously, and he’ll be good for the Jews despite what his own brother describes as his “MUSLIM BACKGROUND”!!

Never has one person been surrounded by so many nutburgers. From Gateway Pundit:

Barack Obama’s brother Malik Abongo “Roy” Obama is a Luo activist and a militant Muslim who argues that the black man must “liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture.”

Bush Welcomed In Europe - Comparatively Speaking

From the BBC:

Rome was braced for violent protests against President Bush, with 10,000 police mobilised and hundreds of prisoners being moved out of the Regina Coeli prison to make room for arrested demonstrators. Yesterday morning, however, their cells remained empty.

A peace march marking Mr Bush’s arrival in Italy on Wednesday numbered no more than 2,000 people, most of whom went home when it began to rain. At earlier stops in Slovenia and Germany there were no visible signs of dissent at all. A President whose previous visits to Europe generated waves of anger is this week stirring only ripples of irritation in a sea of apathy.

Not In America

In America, political opponents aren’t tried for treason. Political opponents aren’t sentenced to death.

In parts of Africa and other places, that’s what happens when you challenge Robert Mugabe.

From the BBC:

The secretary general of Zimbabwe’s main opposition party will be charged with treason and faces a possible death sentence, police say.

Tendai Biti of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was arrested in Harare on his return from South Africa.

MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who faces President Robert Mugabe in a 27 June run-off poll, was also detained twice.

Is this the worst country in the world?
